A Perfectly Curated Napa Escape
Wine country, coastal beauty, and a touch of San Francisco charm
There’s something about Napa Valley that feels both indulgent and grounding at the same time—rolling vineyards, golden light, incredible wine, and a slower pace that invites you to truly settle in. My recent trip was the perfect blend of ease, beauty, and intentional planning—and it all started with a strategic arrival.
✈️ The Smart Way to Start: Fly into San Francisco (SFO)
Instead of rushing straight into Napa, I highly recommend flying into San Francisco International Airport in the evening and staying overnight at the Hyatt Regency San Francisco Airport. The bed was comfy, the hotel is incredibly clean, the amenities are nice - and if you get a room facing the runway, you get binoculars and a plane viewing guide - HOW FUN!
The ease here is unmatched—quick AirTrain access, no late-night driving stress, and a calm, organized start. The next morning, you’re refreshed, grab your rental car, and head toward wine country.
🌉 The Drive to Napa (Take the Scenic Route)
Make it part of the experience and drive over the iconic Golden Gate Bridge.
A few fun facts as you cross:
Its signature color, International Orange, was chosen for visibility in fog
It was the longest suspension bridge in the world when completed in 1937
Its towers rise 746 feet above the water

🏙 Optional Add-On: A Day in San Francisco
If your schedule allows, layering in a day in San Francisco adds the perfect contrast.
Don’t miss:
Alcatraz Island
Riding the San Francisco Cable Car System
Irish coffee at Buena Vista Cafe
Chocolate at Ghirardelli Square
Fresh sourdough from Boudin Bakery
🍇 Where to Stay in Napa
We stayed at Silverado Resort—a perfect home base that blends comfort with understated luxury.
Highlights:
Spacious apartment-style suites with living room, kitchen, fireplace, and beautiful bath
A recently renovated spa
Incredible golf and peaceful surroundings
Easy access to the Stags Leap District
For a more intimate stay, Kenwood Inn and Spa offers a romantic, boutique feel on the Sonoma side. And, for a truly immersive experience, select wineries—like Tamber Bey Vineyards—offer unique access or lodging opportunities through wine clubs. Other options include downtown hotels or VRBO properties..... I can help you find and book the perfect place for your stay!
🍇 A Brief History of Napa Valley
Long before Napa became one of the most celebrated wine regions in the world, it was a quiet agricultural valley first planted with vineyards in the mid-1800s. Early pioneers like George Yount and Charles Krug helped establish the region’s first commercial wineries in the 1860s. Napa’s growth was later halted by Prohibition, and it took decades to rebuild. Some winery visits like, Stags’ Leap offer a glimpse into the stories around prohibition, including a visit to a secret speakeasy!
Everything changed in 1976 with the Judgment of Paris, when Napa wines stunned the world by outperforming top French wines in a blind tasting—instantly putting Napa Valley on the global map. Today, Napa is known for its world-class wines, innovation, and deep respect for the land.
✨ Fun Fact: Napa Valley produces only about 4% of California’s wine, yet it represents a significant portion of the state’s total wine value—proof that quality here truly outweighs quantity.
🍷 A Quick Guide to Napa’s AVA Districts
Napa Valley is made up of AVA districts (American Viticultural Areas)—micro-regions defined by their soil, elevation, and climate. These subtle differences are what give Napa wines such distinct personalities. The Stags Leap District is known for elegant, structured Cabernets thanks to volcanic soils and cooling breezes, while Oakville produces bold, powerful wines. Rutherford offers earthy richness—often called “Rutherford Dust”—and Carneros, with its cooler climate, is ideal for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Understanding these regions adds depth to your tasting experience—you begin to taste not just the wine, but the land behind it.

🍇 The Winery Experience
One of the highlights of Napa is blending iconic wineries with smaller, more intimate experiences.
🌿 Favorite Intimate & Organic Experiences
A true hidden gem. With by-appointment-only tastings and very limited production, the experience feels incredibly personal. What makes it even more special is its connection to music and storytelling, woven into the tasting in a way that feels emotional and memorable.
A standout for its commitment to biodynamic farming, which goes beyond organic practices. Here, the vineyard is treated as a living ecosystem—aligned with nature, focused on soil health, and rooted in sustainability. Choose from a tram tour, private tasting, or relaxed outdoor experience—it’s both educational and inspiring.
Family-owned and welcoming, with a relaxed, authentic feel and beautiful vineyard views. There were even baby goats runnign around that we got to see. This is by appointmetn only, so be sure to pre-arrange a visit here. The wine is amazing, and the tasting inside the caves is pretty cool.
One of Napa’s most unique experiences. The owners began in endurance horse racing, which led them to purchase a ranch in Calistoga. Over time, they expanded into vineyards and later into polo, creating a lifestyle-driven estate that blends wine and equestrian culture. Today, you can visit the horses, enjoy the peaceful ranch setting, and even add a picnic lunch in the courtyard—a serene, unforgettable experience.
Clos du Val – A historic, family-owned estate offering balanced, refined wines rooted in Napa tradition. We had the privilege of attending a private wine dinner for a trade association here and it was AMAZING! The food, wine, grounds, and expereince we incredible.
